CFC STATUS
Housed in a purpose built campus; the school emphasizes both academic and co-curricular facilities. Science, Computer and Food laboratories are designed and stocked according to specifications provided by Cambridge International Examinations, University of Cambridge, UK. These, and strong annual academic results which improve every year have enabled LGS 1-A-1 attain the status of Cambridge Fellowship Centre (CFC).
ASSESSMENT and EXAMINATIONS
Apart from weekly, monthly and end of term assessments; LGS conducts and uses the Cambridge checkpoint exams( now called Cambridge Lower Secondary ). The CLS is an internationally recognized assessment benchmark to check for students’ readiness for the strenuous and challenging O-level programme. These exams are taken in three subjects, English, Maths & Science at the end of grade 8.
SUBJECTS
LGS 1-A-1 has been a pioneer in introducing new subjects offered by CIE. Along with the GCSE O-level subjects, we now offer three IGCSE coursework based subjects i.e. Drama, ICT and Global Perspectives. Taking cognizance of developing technologies and literacies; LGS offers skill development in subjects which open up new career choices as a first step towards empowerment of emerging economies.
LGS: A SMART SCHOOL
Focusing on a SMART SCHOOL approach, teaching at LGS has been transformed with interactive boards, customized IT labs and teacher student ratio kept to a minimum. Students are also encouraged to study foreign languages like German, as part of the curriculum.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES
LGS offers a Scholastic Reading Inventory Programme, which is now a permanent feature of the school curriculum. Commonwealth essay competitions, interschool reading and writing competitions, and spelling bee tests are some of the events that encourage students to improve their linguistic and reading skills.
LIBRARY
Enforcing a strong home-school partnership, LGS houses a well stocked library with lending facilities to encourage individual reading while creative writing and editorial skills are polished through the publication of a school magazine and a newsletter.
PERFORMING ARTS
Some of the major features of co curricular activities at school are the annual dramatic and performing arts productions which promote language, culture and music; both at the national and international level. Focus is laid on providing opportunities and honing natural ability in performance, technical skills and art administration. Participation in the annual All Pakistan Music Conference, Lahore is a permanent feature while students bring laurels home as participatants in national and international events.
FIELD Trips and Student Exchange Programs
Educational field trips are necessary for an effective implementation of the hidden curriculum of any school. Three trips are therefore planned annually – the focus of these being firstly; community service and service learning; secondly: visits to institutional and educational organizations and a close third being trips focusing on cultural, environmental and historical aspects of education.
Under the aegis of the People to People Program; LGS linked its first student exchange programme with the Modern School, Visant Vihar, New Delhi, India. International tours, exchange programs and pleasure trips rank among the most eagerly awaited annual activity for students and teachers alike. LGS believes that foreign trips help students transform personally and explore new avenues of living and adventure, thus realizing travel is not just fun but education. Each year the Grade 11 outgoing class takes a farewell trip to Islamabad as it is their last chance to travel as school students together before they graduate to an A-level programme.
SPORTS
Sports play a very significant part in personality growth. LGS 1-A-1 strives to encourage healthy physical activity and the on-campus swimming pool trains students to participate in inter and intra swimming competitions , along with physical training and outdoor games which are a compulsory part of the timetable. A well equipped gymnasium enables girls to do aerobics, yoga and exercise under the direct supervision of an internationally trained gym instructor.
ANNUAL EVENTS
In order for students to develop leadership and team building skills; milads, bonfires, carnivals and art competitions are held to encourage students to participate and contribute effectively towards the success of these programmes.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
LGS offers professional development training programmes for all teachers which are conducted every Friday by a designated Trainer. The sessions provide an opportunity for teachers to reflect on their experiences, improve practice and plan for better teaching and learning. Face to face training, webinars and conferences as organized by CIE and British Council are a critical component of the school calendar.
